Can Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy Help You?
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle touch therapy that has its origins in osteopathy and as such there is an orientation to the cerebral spinal fluid that flows around the brain and the spinal cord. This is a potent fluid that bathes the whole nervous system. A biodynamic craniosacral therapist listens to and feels the rhythms of this potent fluid system, whose free flow indicates optimal health in the body. They also tune into, and listen to, the subtle rhythms of the body, those of the nervous system, the tissues – muscles, organs, connective tissue and fascia.
Our bodies are constantly making adaptive changes in response to our life experience and conditions so we can function and maintain the best state of balance possible. The vitality available to us may, however, be severely depleted if much of it is working to contain and centre factors such as toxins, pathogens, emotional shocks and physical impacts on our bodies. Our system becomes more dense and inertial, less fluidic and we may experience symptoms of fatigue, depression, physical pain and malaise.
Biodynamic craniosacral therapy works directly with the nervous system, and as such therapists in this field of work are specifically trained to create a safe space for the clients system to safely negotiate down regulation of the nervous system. Orienting clients to what resources them, supports a feeling of safety where held patterns can be met and resolved in a gentle paced way.
This enables the body to come out of fight/ flight/ freeze states (stress/trauma), to a state of ease where the body can rest, renew, digest and repair, releasing patterns of holding that may include, physical tension, pain, illness, or disease, emotional or mental distress, and its resultant affect on the body, mind and life experience of the person. Biodynamic craniosacral therapy facilitates these changes in the system as a whole to fundamentally change our way of being in the world and enhance our quality of life and living.
Deep healing
Gentle touch supports the delicate rhythmical pulsations in the body which have been linked to the body’s natural capacity to self-heal. As an experienced practitioner I am skilled in attuning to the body’s internal dynamic forces and can build up a map of the inner body just as if it were a landscape.
The aim of craniosacral treatment is to locate and address the roots of aches and pain, acute and chronic disease, and emotional and psychological disturbances.
I am able to sense movement within the tissues and fluids of the body and this awareness contributes considerably to the mapping and resolution of imbalances, restrictive conditions, and the myriad effects of long-term stress.
Through very gentle and safe touch I encourage my clients towards a fuller life of increased embodiment and engaged vitality.
Craniosacral therapy is useful both as a primary treatment method and in combination with other traditional or complementary therapeutic techniques.
Stress and Nervous System dis-regulation
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a safe and gentle restorative treatment that pays special attention to settling the nervous system.
Continuous stress compromises the immune system, metabolic balance, and the capacity for self-healing.
70 and 90 percent of modern day diseases can be linked to anxiety and tension.
It seems reasonable to infer that if stress levels were addressed and brought into balance, 70 to 90 percent of the body’s natural healing potential could be recouped and put to use.
Although it feels like it’s mostly going on in our heads, stress does not only affect our thoughts, it also takes root within the physical plane of our bodies.
My work as a Craniosacral therapist supports the whole human being, within all its subtle and profound expressions of health and challenge.
For babies and children
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is very delicate, safe and effective for babies and children . No pressures are applied, only a deep gentle listening of the body’s own natural ability to heal itself.
In Cranial Work, I believe it is important to follow the infant’s development to help clear any compressions or tensions that may have come up during labour and birth.
Interventions such us forceps, vacuum, cesareans, a fast birth, etc. are steps that can influence the process and generate certain pressures that decrease mobility in the cranial bones.
I believe that providing babies with cranial treatment along the way is an important resource for supporting their nervous system and general health.
Babies and children are pure beings with infinite potential. Yet, it doesn’t matter how soon or late people can receive treatment. This work offers the chance to recover health and vitality at all times in life: during pregnancy, after birth, in childhood and adulthood.
For Pregnancy and post partum
Craniosacral therapy assists the pregnant woman along her journey into mothering by releasing restrictions in the body and pelvis to co-create an optimal birthing experience.
During pregnancy, one of the primary focuses is to release restrictions in the pelvis to resolve back and hip pain and tension and to prepare for an optimal labour and birth, including promoting optimal fetal positioning. Craniosacral bodywork assists the baby in the womb to have optimal labour, birth and bonding.
Craniosacral supports the pregnant women’s inner resources for health, facilitating global balance in the body, heart and spirit. Through light touch, a therapist can balance the pelvis and uterus in pregnancy to ease and prevent ligament pain, posterior babies and low back, hip or rib pain
During the postpartum period, craniosacral therapy restores musculoskeletal reintegration, emotional balance and pelvic health and helps alleviate the discomforts of new-born care and mothering.
Craniosacral therapy is even more effective for infants when the mother is simultaneously treated. The mother can be treated while holding the baby or while the baby lies on the mother’s belly; the baby also receives treatment this way.
